STAY Ready RSTAY's Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports Program
Help me give my students a school store that rewards students for displaying positive behaviors throughout the school day. Our school is starting our PBIS program that teaches and reinforces positive behavioral expectations for all students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My student come from very diverse backgrounds and that provides us with great opportunities to learn from one another. We have a predominately African American student population but in more recent years have encountered a rapidly increasing Hispanic and English as a Second Language or English Language Learners (ESL/ELL). Our students have very diverse life experiences that in some ways have set them off course from graduating in the "normal" expected four-year timeline. Nonetheless, our students show resilience in returning to and continuing school on their journey to obtain their high school diploma.
My Project
The materials requested will help the school build a school store filled with incentives for students to earn rewards for displaying appropriate and positive behaviors throughout the school day. If students are "caught" displaying the appropriate behavior based upon the school-wide expectations established then he or she will receive a ticket to get a reward of his or her choice from the school store. The hope is that with the option to earn rewards, students are excited and motivated to begin to display more positive and appropriate behaviors than unwanted and inappropriate behaviors; and hopefully encourage their peers to do the same. Overtime students would have the ability to earn larger rewards such as field trips and be entered into raffles to win larger gifts/prizes. The implementation of this program not only helps to create a safe and structured school culture for learning but will help students learn skills they will be able to carry with them beyond graduation.
