Help me give my students with disabilities the opportunity to stay active during Covid-19 distance learning. This includes game sets, kickballs, and mini cones.
I am blessed to teach adapted physical education at 2 high schools in St. Paul; Highland Park and Central. My students come from diverse backgrounds with many different languages and disabilities. Our school district went to distance learning in the spring and I quickly realized our students do not have equity in exercise equipment at home.
I was limited on the activities we could do during this time.
Now as we begin a new school year as full-time distance learners I would like to provide equipment to my students at home so we can continue to work on my students IEP goals and objectives in the best way possible due to the current distance learning.
My Project
This equipment will provide equity to my inner-city students with disabilities so we can continue to work on our IEP goals and objectives during our districts required distance learning due to Covid-19. I or someone from the district will drop the equipment off at their homes. We will be using this equipment for continuing Improving our throwing and catching skills.
It is important to my students to use the same object I have on my screen.
My students will follow my movements as though they are looking in the mirror. We also will have a fitness component in our lessons and they seem to enjoy the creativity I use when we have objects. For example....they can place cones in their house or yard and we can have running, bear crawling, skipping, hopping and other movements to get balls/frisbees from one area to another. I also like to have them hold plank position while moving objects so they have more fun working on improving their upper body strength.
