This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at an elementary in the heart of South West Little Rock. I have worked there for three years as a second grade teacher. At our elementary there are 100% of our students who receive free or reduced lunch. I have experienced many traumas that my students have gone through. Many have experienced death of parents, in foster care and many do not have a home to go back to at night.
Low socioeconomic students deserve so much more than what the school can give them.
These kids are constantly battling for survival. My goal is to give them what they need as well as an education that can get them out of their constant battle.
My Project
My job is to create an environment that facilitates student learning. My goal is have furniture that incorporates flexibility in learning. Students with disabilities need to have an option for their learning environment. Students with ADHD will be able to use different types of furniture to help them learn. They will be able to bounce on their bouncy balls which will not distract other students. They will be able to keep their mind focused on the designated task instead of focusing on moving their body to focus. They will have different seating options to help ensure their learning style in the classroom.
