Stationary Bikes to Help Prevent Overuse Running Injuries
My students need four stationary bikes for the cross country team to work out on when recovery from running injuries or when required to get in some extra non-impact fitness.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I carry about 80 boys on my HS Cross Country Team. When a running related injury pops up, the first course of action is rest and non impact fitness such as stationary cycling. These bikes would be a great boost in helping keep these athletes fit while nursing an injury.
The boys cross county team at Long Beach Poly HS is one of the most consistently successful athletic programs in the district.
They work very hard and are proud to be part of a winning tradition. We are a very large high school in a fairly impoverished area of the city. Many can't afford a gym to train on supplemental equipment such as stationary bikes. Having access to cross training bikes would be a significant boost to our program and increase the fitness of our runners.
My Project
It is not uncommon for some of our runners to workout twice a day. Having stationary bikes to use for one of those double workouts would greatly reduce the impact and wear and tear in the individual student athlete while continuing to increase fitness levels. And is I previously stated, these bikes would be a great boost to our athletes who are trying to maintain their fitness levels while getting through an injury.
My classroom, the athletic field, would be vastly improved by the addition of these stationary bikes.
Many of my runners have never had the opportunity to cross train so the bikes will give them that opportunity and increase their overall fitness as well as reduce the risk of overuse running injuries.
