I teach in a very low income small town community where resources are limited. This is even more true since the recent wildfires in California where myself, as well as many students have been rattled following the mandatory evacuations. We are focused on rebuilding our lives and trying to get back to our new normal. Having various opportunities in the classroom to create some sort of stability will be so important in maintaining our classroom family.
This year, our classroom is focusing on building a Growth Mindset!
We want to continue building and growing our brains! We are learning that mistakes help us to get better, and even getting the wrong answer helps us become better learners. My students are very eager to learn and participate, and even though resources in our community are limited, the students show their desire to learn and progress!
They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have this group of students to normalize my life again. My students help me feel a sense of normalcy and I hope to set the same example for them in these challenging times.
My Project
Flexible wobble stools can allow students to take charge of their learning! These stools will be used during Teacher Table which will make this station a desired choice during our small group centers. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when given a choice of which order they want to complete their centers, and where to sit. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.
They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are engaged, and get more work finished than when they are just sitting at their desk.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when given a choice of which order they want to complete their centers. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow!
We use whiteboards daily, and my current class set has seen better days. We use them to show different strategies, so students can show the strategy (especially in math) that works best for them as an individual.
