My Students

I work at a school is composed of students who are ELL, based low-income students lacking parental support and basic social skills. 100% of our student population receives free breakfast and lunch and many are homeless or living in unsuitable environments. We also have a large population from Puerto Rico that transferred over to start again after Hurricane Irma, just a short while ago.

In my specific classroom, I have 10 ELL students, 5 of who speak no English, 4 ESE students, and 5 who are on specific behavior-based plans.

Due to the lack of parental support and social skills, a majority of my students are unable to focus on and complete what's expected of them.

My Project

My project is based solely on a durable high quality set of headphones for my students. I work at a 100% digital school, therefore the entire student population has a laptop computer and instruction is primarily digitally-based. Without headphones, focusing and completing classwork is nearly impossible and continues to be a daily struggle not only for my students, but also for me!

My students did receive a set of headphones from the school and were asked to bring a set in at the beginning of the year, but because of budgeting purposes, were not given a replacement if they became damaged and parents are unable to purchase durable headphones, due to lack of support and money.
