Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students not only come from a low-income area, but they are also working to learn the English Language. Despite all the hardships they have outside of school, they come to school ready to learn.
I teach at a Title I school where 88% of our students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
We provide Blessings in a Backpack where students can take a bag of food home on the weekends.
Despite so many hardships, my students walk into my classroom with smiles on their faces. They are so eager to learn. They deserve the materials that will help to push them to reach their full potential.
My Project
Binders will make a difference in my students' learning by allowing them to keep their stuff organized. As a fifth grade teacher, it is my job to help get them prepared for middle school. My student will use the colored pens for writing rough drafts, writing each paragraph in a different color. This is a strategy I learned about in a training earlier this year. My students will use highlighters in reading. They can use them to find evidence and quote from sources. A skill they learn in fifth grade.
Donating to our project will be giving my students supplies that they don't have and can't afford.
Every school year I spend my own money to ensure that my students have everything they need to be successful. Getting these supplies funded not only will mean a lot to my students, but will mean a lot to me as well.
