Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My name is Mr. Kelly and I teach 5th grade Science at a school in a small close knit community in Southwest Baltimore. My students are the most caring and adventurous souls around. It puts a smile on my face to see the enthusiasm with which they come to school everyday.
They are always excited to explore different concepts and learn new things.
We delve into all kinds of concepts of life and earth science to prepare them for middle and high school as well as exploring the world of writing.
Unfortunately, many of my students come from lower income families which means they often have limited resources. Without these resources it is a greater challenge for my students to be met with the success that I KNOW they can achieve. I am hoping that as their teacher I can do everything within my power to foster a suitable working environment for them to find their success.
My Project
Students will use these materials daily. Clipboards are extremely important in our classroom not only to give students a chance to work in a non-traditional setting around the room, but we also spend a good amount of time outside of the classroom making different observations in our school yard.
Having these clipboards allows students to stay organized when outside of the classroom.
The magazines that have been requested will help to support students in reading and fluency using informational texts. These magazines support students both on and below grade level in reading. They are also used very often to support students in writing. We use them to build skills in writing.
