Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a charter school in California. Our school mission is to instill a love for learning and a belief in themselves in all of our students. We believe that ALL of our students are college bound. Can’t, too hard, impossible, these words absolutely are NOT part of our vocabulary. My students walk in my classroom excited for what is in store for them and eager to learn! They have an AMAZING spirit that I hope to continue to foster.
My Project
It is not only my job to teach my students curriculum, but it's also my job to teach them skills and give them tools that will help them not only succeed in school but also in life. I teach at a charter school with students from many backgrounds. Most of our students' families travel long distances so their young scholar can receive an excellent education. Most of our families cannot afford many extra expenses, so we try to keep our school supply lists to a minimum.
I have asked for some basic classroom supplies to help alleviate some of the expense for the families of my scholars.
Some of the supplies I have requested are pencils and glue sticks. You have now idea how fast we can go through these! I have also requested file folders and pocket folders.
These folders will be used to help teach my scholars to organize their work, but also for them to create portfolios. These portfolios will showcase the work that they are the most proud of and will allow them track and take ownership of their progress throughout the year! I have also asked for some supplies for center activities. We do A LOT of hands on learning in our classroom. Things like dry erase markers and dry erase pockets are staples for many center activities.
