I can't believe I am getting ready to start my 24th year in education! It is a blessing to spend my days at this beautiful community school in the spectacular mountains of western North Carolina. My school is pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, with around 550 students. Many of my students walk or bike to school. Living in a walkable community is so much fun for them!
My students attend an A+ Arts Integration school where the arts are seamlessly infused in teaching and learning.
The community is deeply invested in the education and nurturing of each student.
This year, we embark on something we have never experienced before. Some students will learn 100% virtually and the remaining students will attend school 2 days a week and learn virtually the remaining days. This is a challenge we are ready to accept and a journey we will take together.
My Project
Starting August 17th, we embarked on Plan B or a hybrid model of some face to face learning and some virtual learning. The last time we had students in our building was March 13th. I remember that week so vividly. It was Daylight Savings, a full moon and Friday was the 13th. As tough as that week was, there was nothing worse than knowing we weren't going to see our students for a long, long time. To keep us safe, I am requesting an air purifier and extra filters. This purifier will help circulate air and keep the air clean. We will all be wearing masks but this purifier provides an added layer of safety. I am so glad to be back in the building with students. I know they are glad to be back to a routine and with their friends.
