My student come from a small rural area. The student body is 65-70% free and reduced lunches for the students. Students come to school without the basic tools (pencils, paper, erasers) needed to be successful.
I want to make it possible for all students to have the items they need to succeed in the classroom.
I want the items to be available to them without them feeling shamed. The children cannot help that the parents do not care. All students need to feel involved and motivated to do their best. I want them to feel loved and cared for while they are in my classroom. They need to know that someone cares about their well being and know that they can come to me for any need.
If the children can come to me for a pencil or an eraser MAYBE they will come to me for something bigger and more meaningful.
My Project
I have requested basic classroom supplies for my students to use in the classroom this school year. Parents will usually send in one pack of pencils and paper and expect it to last the entire school year. However, they are usually gone within a month.
The items that I have requested are items that I would normally buy out of my own pocket for my students.
All children deserve to have the supplies needed to be successful in school Just because parents will not supply these items the children should not suffer. No child is ever denied the basic tools for their education in my classroom
