Mrs. Baker from Buffalo NY is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need to learn how to work as a table/group to stay organized and share their materials. The small-group table top organizers and the classroom supply caddies will help me direct and educate my class!

I have the best students in the world! They are diverse and uniquely amazing people who are filled with joy and love. I am a Kindergarten Teacher in Buffalo, New York. Our school has immigrants from every part of the globe, which have just recently moved here in hopes for a better life. Many students, some of them coming from refugee camps, have never been in a formal educational setting before, even in their native country. In just my Kindergarten class, I have students from places like Afghanistan, Bhutan, Congo, Puerto Rico, Egypt, Somalia, Burma, Vietnam, Yugoslavia, and Tanzania.
Kindergarten students' minds are like sponges, they absorb everything around them.
This is one of the reasons that I love my job so much. At the beginning of the year, many of my students were unable to speak English or to communicate with me. Now, as I reflect and think back to September, it is amazing how much they have learned in such a short period of time. All of my students have learned to speak and communicate with me and the rest of our class. They have all built strong and loving friendships.
The materials that I have selected for purchase are Small-Group Tabletop Organizers, Classroom Supply Caddies (6 different colors), and a Classroom Calendar Kit. These material will help my class to learn how to get organized. Each student table will be identified by a different color caddie and organizer. Since my students speak many different languages, by identifying their table/spot by a color- it will help the student to know when to clean up and return back to his or her seat. For an example, if I say "blue table please return back to your chairs" the student who does not exactly understand what I am saying will see the other students from their table moving to their seats, and follow them. Eventually all students will understand my request. Also, I will keep different subject materials in the matching caddie color. This will create the opportunity of having to take turns, share, and work with others. For an example, I will say "L please go get your tables Math materials". If L sits at the red table, he will go and get the red caddie organizer with the Math materials. My students are learning without even knowing it! While using these materials, I will assign a different student weekly to be responsible and have the "Leader" role. Another big reason that I asked for these materials is the time that they will be saving while passing out materials, and changing between subjects. Of course this means more time for me to teach, and that is the most important thing... students learning! The Classroom Calendar will allow our class to start off with the date, and discuss any important events that are happening that day or in the near future. We'll start off our day by organizing today and the future.
