Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom has low income to middle income students. Coalinga is a small rural town, primarily Hispanic and Caucasian. Most of the children come from farm worker families, and most are bused in from up to an hour away. They love science and art! They love being able to interact with each when they learn, and they love games. They also love doing art and crafts and I love combining art into all areas of instruction.
My Project
The books I chose are about money, astronomy, culture, and an encyclopedia. These grade level books are about 2nd grade topics that we are currently learning about. The students will also be able to read the books during Daily 5, where they improve their comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expand their vocabulary.
My students are just starting to learn about money, which is why I added the money board Coins Count as my students love games.
This will be great for STEM time as well. The Roll and Solve math games are also for STEM time and board math time, as my students are currently learning how to add and subtract. These games are also great to use during the whole year.
My students will use the phonics and word games to improve their word libraries and write better sentences. The Creating Sight Words Station will help my students improve their sentences and improve their paragraphs. Sight Word Bingo is game I wanted to help my students expand their vocabulary. My students will also become better readers by learning sight words. This will be a great small group or whole class activity.
Activities they can do in small groups or partners were my goal. All of these resources can be used for future students as well, making them even more valuable to me and my students.
