My students need a well-equipped classroom. They need a reading rug, classroom printer, binders/folder organization, writing tools, learning charts and educational games!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I envision my student's walking in on the first day of school and saying "WOW!" and of course with bright smiles on their faces. This year, I hope to present my students with a classroom like no other that they have seen; one that is fully-equipped to bring them to their full potential!
This year, I will be taking a journey with another group of special first and second graders.
These students attend school in an area with high poverty in our city. Their family life is unpredictable at times and for many, our classroom, is the safest and most stable place. At this school, both students and teachers are held to high standards and engage in rigorous curriculum. Although the students are expected to digest a large amount of information, at such a young age, they need a reason to learn. They need to see connections to the world! I have high expectations for my upcoming group of students! Beyond homework and test scores, I hope to push them to be confident, globally-aware and loving people. As adults, we know people make mistakes, and many times, the students at my school will be hard on themselves for their mistakes, but I hope to implement new strategies to help them bring out the changemakers from within!
My Project
When you look through the supplies, you may think that they are ordinary and part of every day life. For the students brand new pencils are a treat! Over the course of the past year, I have received many lessons on how to engage students in whole-brain learning! My students are always told, aim high, achieve more. It is hard to aim high without the appropriate resources. In my list I have a huge selection of books in which I can use to drive my students to higher-order thinking. There are also, math and vocabulary games listed so that the students are able to engage in a interactive manner. Beyond that, there are many school supplies such as glues, scissors, pencil sharpeners, clips, clipboards- all of which we will be using on a daily basis. Beyond the simple supplies, I hope to integrate technology with the whole class with minimal costs! My students deserve better resources and you can help bring things that they don't always see in our school... into their classroom! Be the change!
Last year, I reached out for help late in the game.
I tried to do too much by myself. What I found out was that I can share the responsibility and have my friends, families and generous strangers chip in some love to help bring my students to their potential. This year, I'm starting early! My goal is to have kids smiling and learning simultaneously inside our highly-functioning classroom! I am so eager to get started on this new year and so thankful for any help that I can get from all of you!
