Our music department is 100% community-funded and we don't get any money from our district. In spite of this, we have nearly two hundred middle school students engaged in making music at school! Our students come from a very wide range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Most do not have their own instruments and struggle to get supplies.
At our school, our bands, orchestras, and jazz bands flourish because kids love to make music.
We perform regularly for the community and the students participate in honor groups as well. Each year, we struggle to make sure we have enough playable instruments and materials for all the students who want to participate.
My Project
This project covers a wide range of resources to help start the year in our dynamic program. The larger items are a practice kit for the percussionists so they can practice at home on actual instruments and some new cases for some of our cellos and violins. Currently, some of our cases are in such disrepair that the student cannot take the instrument home to practice because the case falls apart!
This project includes materials for each class (two bands, two orchestras, jazz band, and general music) to help start the year fresh.
The oils, grease, endpin tips, shoulder rests, mouthpiece/reeds will help our students keep their instruments working smoothly.
