I am currently a fifth grade teacher in a Title I school. The student population is more than 94% free and reduced lunch. Next school year I will be teaching first grade, a grade level that I have never had the opportunity to teach before. I am literally starting over and I would like to be able to offer my students a classroom library that is on their reading level as well as books that I could use for read-a-louds and themed teaching. I've been given the opportunity to shape and mold young minds at a very early age. I would like to build a love of reading with each child that I teach. As I continue my education I've learned that children that enjoy reading must be read to from various types of text. They also enjoy books that include repetition. I've also found that students that aren't sure of themselves enjoy choral reading. To promote the love of reading with my children and to meet all of their academic needs I need big books like "4 Angry Cats" or "There Was An Old Lady" and books on tape. It is important for our students to build comprehension levels at a young age and this library will help me to do this.
