We are team teachers with approximately 42 students in our second grade class. Our school is a Title I school. Many of our students are on free or reduced-price lunch and often receive snack packs on Fridays just to sustain them on the weekends. We service 23 different apartment complexes, several of which are Section 8 government housing.
Even with these challenges, our students come to school with a zest for learning.
They are motivated learners who generally have almost perfect attendance. Those light bulb moments are what make teaching so fulfilling.
My Project
These books will allow me to use a hook to discuss behaviors or growth mindset in a fun and age appropriate way. These books will help focus topics in our morning meetings so that we can start a dialogue about how to treat others and that diversity is what makes America great.
"What Do You Do With a Problem?" is a great starter to get second graders to really think about different ways they can solve a situation they might be experiencing.
"That Rule Doesn't Apply to Me" is something we struggle with all the time; this will allow students to hopefully think before the problems start.
