I teach in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school each day eager to learn with a smile on their face and a story to tell. They are hardworking, energetic, and fun-loving! My students love to participate in hands-on learning and learning through play. In the classroom, we practice being respectful, responsible, and safe. I strive to create a positive atmosphere for my students.
My Project
Starting off a new school year can be a scary time for many! I would like to provide some brand new classroom materials to my students so they may feel less nervous and more excited about the school year; allowing us to begin with, and maintain, an organized classroom.
In first grade, we use crayons, binders, folders, clipboards, and hall passes on a daily basis.
The folders and binders will give my students a chance to take responsibility for the belongings in their desks. We also do a lot of work on the carpet and my students are often searching for something hard to write on; a class set of clipboards would easily solve this problem for us! The laminating pouches will allow me to create durable materials, such as word wall words, that will last the whole year as the students practice reading them and we hang them on our walls. I hope that by receiving these materials, my students will take pride in their school work and education and not begin the year off feeling worried.
