Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a small, Title I high school located in New York, housed with a campus of many small schools. As we service students primarily from the surrounding neighborhood, our students represent a diverse multicultural and disadvantaged urban population.
I work in an economically depressed area in New York and most of my students' families fall below the poverty line.
Many are on public assistance; many others are barely surviving. Yet, my students are expected to meet the same educational standards as more affluent students of New York. My proposal is to provide all of my students with the basic supplies one needs to complete all of their classwork and lab assignments in class. Items like pencils and pens, tape and staples are in constant demand. We also use Ziploc bags to serve as pencil cases to keep all of their supplies together. We use construction paper and bulletin boards to present and display student learning.
My Project
We go through a lot of days at school and offer supplies every semester. Often, students lose or forget to bring in basic supplies like pens and pencils. Some simply cannot afford to purchase the needed supplies. We also ask our students to make presentations of their learning that might include creating drawings, posters and other forms of displays. These pieces require paper, markers, glue sticks, etc. This cost money that our students cannot afford to lay out. My task is to eliminate this issue. Hence, in this project, I am requesting for pens and pencils, markers and construction paper, bulletin board materials and other office supplies.
Your act of kindness and generosity will go a long way in eliminating this obstacle to the learning process and will be long remembered by our students.
Students will also know that there are people in their community who care about them and their education.
Please help me help those most in need. Help me make learning fun and engaging.
