Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is at the heart of one of the most diverse city's in America. Our classroom alone represents over 6 different countries. I have students that have only been in the United States for a month. It's an honor and a privilege to teach such resilient learners. Teaching diverse learners means that I need to teach in a variety of ways and adapt as an educator. It's my duty to continue to being a learner myself and seeing each day as an opportunity to grow personally.

Teaching over 6 different cultures and 98% English language learners is an honor that I don't take lightly and that is why I ask for your generous support in helping us build a resource rich classroom.

These students battle homelessness, language barriers, and being a newcomer in a foreign country and yet they are engage, excited, and ready to learn each and every day! Thank you for taking the time to read about our students and believing in them.

My Project

Up to this point in my teaching career, I have been a math/science teacher. Now I am jumping into the world of teaching literacy and in order to do that.... I need books. I get to be one of the first people to introduce students to the incredible world of literacy. Students get lost in the magical world of Ivy and Bean. They laugh at Mr. Poppleton and all his silliness. They get to read comics from Fly Guy and ponder at the typical problems in Junie B. Jones. That is ... if they have those books to choose from.

Help me give my students the gift of enjoying books and seeing reading as a something that excites them rather than a humdrum chore.

Please help me start my classroom library and become a partner in educating our future generation.
