Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a diverse International Baccalaureate school. We have students from all nationalities and various abilities. Every day, my students encounter someone who is different from them, whether it is a different language, race, or learning style.
Every day my 27 students come into the room hungry.
They are hungry for learning and for food. My students all come from low-income families who are unable to afford much for their children. All our students receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Several of the students come on the first day without a backpack. Others come to school in the middle of winter with no coat.
My Project
Spiral notebooks and folders are used daily in my classroom for all subjects. Students practice multiplication and division problems in them for math. They practice answering open response questions based on ELA passages in them. They jot down observations from a science experiment in them.
The folders help keep the students organized which is an important skill they need to learn before they head to middle school next year.
My students need two folders and notebooks to be used for ELA and math. The folders and notebooks are necessary supplies that I usually buy with my own money at the beginning of the year. With your donation, I can buy additional supplies that will benefit my students.
