Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching in a rural and low income school has many challenges. Being a new teacher in one of these school presents additional challenges. Despite the lack of resources in my classroom, I am dedicated to ensuring that my students have the best learning experience during the year that they spend in my classroom, because they deserve nothing less than the best that I can provide.
My students are curious, clever, witty, and eager to learn but providing the supplies to help them succeed in a rural and impoverished neighborhood is a bigger job than one teacher can accomplish alone.
While my students may have very real concerns outside of my classroom, their experiences inside the classroom reflect a caring environment that is focused on their individual learning success.
My Project
These materials will be used to create much needed STEM centers for the underpriviledged students in my classroom. STEM subjects are often ignored in the classroom, especially classrooms in impoverished neighborhoods. The materials from this project will be used to create centers where my students can learn from their peers while having fun and learning. The Ramps and Balls exploration set, and Engineer-A-Coaster Activity Kit will help my students to gain hands-on knowledge in the critically important STEM subject of Engineering that will help them to grow as leaders in our technologically changing world. While the Fairy Tale Problem Solving Kits 1 and 2 will allow my students to use their creative little minds to complete Engineering activities to solve problems from familiar Fairy Tale stories that they already know and love.
My students are every bit deserving of the quality STEM education that these STEM centers will provide.
My students have a passion for learning which will only be increased when they have the opportunity to use their brains and work with their hands, and each other, to solve complex engineering problems.
