A great portion of my students are on free and/or reduced lunch. They qualify for poverty level statistics. Also, our school is quite diverse with more that 20 ethnic backgrounds represented. My students love to grow their own food and learn how to harvest and eat fresh vegetables and herbs.
I would like some peat pots for students to start their own veggies from school to take home for the sumer.
This will allow our school garden to expand beyond what we currently grow.
Thanks , J. Ritter
My Project
Students will choose a vegetable or herb from the seed supply at the school. They will then germinate the seeds in a jiffy pot and take it home at the appropriate time to transplant it into their home garden. Enthusiastic students will be allowed to grow more than one plant if they so desire. (We have an abundance of seeds and soil).
The jiffy pots are ideal because they can be directly transplanted into the soil from their starting location.
No plastic containers will be needed, which is great for the environment. The jiffy pots naturally break down and allow the plant to flourish!
