My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds, which brings a wealth of experiences to the classroom, which then inform my teaching. The majority qualify as low income, and there is a high need for access to equitable education in our community. My students are brave individuals, many of whom have had a rough past but are still striving for excellence. I currently teach two groups of seniors within the Social Justice pathway who will undoubtedly enter careers in the public service and legal domain, as well as 10th graders who will become the future engineers of the world!

My Project

With just under a month until the start of my second year teaching English at Oakland High, CA, my students are in need of a variety of materials to help start the school year strong.

If this project is funded, my students will have lots of new books to choose from for silent reading-both fiction and non-fiction titles to help expand their growing minds.

My student are voracious readers who readily seek the next book to read and I have chosen specific titles released in the last year such as "The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue" and "Dear Martin."

I have also asked for materials like pens and markers to help us write as well as fluorescent light filters to help foster a more comfortable learning environment.
