My students need sticky notes, colored paper, and markers to complete assignments. Candy will be put in prize box to reward positive behavior at the end of the week. Cleaning supplies will keep kiddos healthy!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are resilient. Nearly all of them are living in poverty and many have experienced trauma. Some are homeless or in foster care. They have infinite potential but are hindered by their circumstances.
They deserve a learning environment that does not look or reflect their poverty-status.
They are fighters. The children in my class show up to school each day with a smiling face, as our school is part of their community where they feel most at home. They know that this is one place they can depend on to be fed and cared for. Most importantly, they deserve educational equality and the opportunity to learn and grow to reach their full potentials.
My Project
Please help me and my students start this school year off the best way possible. My students come to school on the first day of school with no materials to begin or maintain throughout the school year. Materials provided for students at my school come from teachers' pockets and generous donors/community partners. Materials such as headphones, paper, dry erase pocket sleeves and sticky notes will be used for students to complete assignments that they are proud of. Candy will be used as an incentive for prize box on Fridays, which students earn through positive behavior, academic achievement, and leadership. Cleaning supplies will keep kiddos healthy and in school.
My goal is to ensure that my students feel that they are in a safe, comfortable, engaging, creative classroom where they are encouraged to take risks and meet their educational potentials without adding any stressors or hindrances to their ever-changing lives.
