We are a classroom of second graders. We are like a family. We love to read, love to learn and we enjoy our days together. We are working on building relationships and learning how to work together.
My thoughtful students love to use technology, collaborate, and think with a growth mindset, and we celebrate success.
We love working with other classrooms and finding ways to creatively collaborate with others. We welcome and leave our door open to ideas and experiencing new ways to learn.
My students are in the process of becoming readers, writers, scientists, historians, and mathematicians. We are all involved in the process of learning. We aim for excellence and celebrate growth. We are a family who encourages and supports one another.
My Project
Our class starts our day with a morning message. It is a time for us to be a community of learners and start our day off with a routine they can look forward to. Each day I write a letter using Carson Dellosa notebook lined chart paper and Sanford flip chart colorful markers. We read it together and each day the letter has a specific theme and purpose. The process of reading the letter builds community, responsibility and relationships.
My students look forward to being the one who leads the morning message and interact with the other students as a leader.
Students interact by using the markers to answer questions, edit and add information.
The letter allows students to practice skills, learn vocabulary, preview and review skills being taught. At the end of the day, one child brings home the letter and practices those same skills at home. It has become a favorite routine in our class.
