I teach a wonderful spirited first grade class with a wide range of academic abilities from GT students to students receiving intervention as well as EL students. This is a great group of students who love to learn and discover new things. They really enjoy collaborating and working together to help each other succeed. We use books as well as other materials to enrich our science curriculum. One thing we love to use during instruction is the Scholastic News magazines, which are interactive and motivate our students to learn about science as well as current events. With the subscription we also get access to online resources. We would love to get this subscription funded for our first grade students beginning next year.
My Project
Scholastic News are great non fiction reading magazines for students at every level. They motivate students to learn about current events and science topics which align with our districts curriculum. We learn about forces, energy, the sun and moon as well as animals and plants. The magazines have real photographs that excite the students to read and discover many topics. Students enjoy reading independently and sharing with others. The online resources which are part of the subscription give teachers printable activities, as well as experiment ideas to use in classroom lessons. This adds to the hands-on lessons students love!!
