This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing seventh graders in an urban community. The classes range from honors to co-taught. We have a very diverse population of learners who have different needs to make them successful. We have a large population of students who receive free or reduced price lunch and low income housing. Even though my students come from different backgrounds, they are all capable of success!
All of my students love the universal language of math and are in need of different experiences but resources are limited.
My students are looking for new opportunities to make math more interesting and fun.
My Project
Help me give my students flexible seating options such as standing tables and stools. My students come to me with a variety of learning needs and abilities. One of these needs is being comfortable while learning. I want to give my students the freedom to choose where they sit in class. Comfortable students are more inclined to learn.
I want my students to feel empowered by having a choice when they come to class; flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom.
This will help my students focus and allow them to get their jitters out in a non-distracting way
An uncomfortable student can be distracted and become unproductive. I want for all my students to know that no matter what their abilities are, they should be comfortable and successful in math.
