On a daily basis we are collaborating in groups, but there is a constant reminder to push in chairs or to keep them out of the walk way.
I have a group of 30 animated and lively 4th grade students who live in the central valley of California.
They are a diverse group; some come from dairy farms while others come from the city. We are a small school district serving kids grades kindergarten - 8th grade.
My students are constantly standing at their desks or leaning over their desks to participate in group work or to complete tasks. I understand the difficulty of sitting all the time and would like provide a more effective way for them to complete their work. Two standing desks would allow for this alternative to complete their work. Students would have the flexibility to move to a standing desk anytime they felt it necessary. Also a chosen group could gather around the desks to work on a task.
The simple act of standing increases blood flow, allowing blood and oxygen to travel to the brain easier.
Standing desks will provide my students with an opportunity to be more productive by helping them remain comfortable and focused. Students will be able to chose when and if they need to move to the desks to be more productive.
