Many of our students are lacking the tools and necessities needed to function well in school because of Hurricane Harvey.
These students have not only lost their school; many of them lost their homes as well.
My students want an environment of normalcy. Right now we are only going to school a half day at our high school. We will soon be moving into portable buildings so that we can go to school full days.
When we go back, we will not have projectors, whiteboards, bookshelves, a teacher desk, or student desks.
My Project
My students and I need a desk and chair for us to work and be productive. All of our desks were thrown away due to the damage from Hurricane Harvey. The water was still sitting in my desk when I returned a couple of weeks after the storm. The desks were rusty and reeked of the awful smell left behind that haunted every house in our community.
In February, we will be moving into portable buildings, and our students don't have necessary furniture to thrive in the classroom.
We won't be able to purchase things since we were so under insured. Our community has never flooded like that before, and our school has only had the minimum flood insurance policy. In our district, 4 of 6 campuses are destroyed and need everything. Please consider helping us during this time of great need.
