This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Middle school is a big time of growth for students, both mentally and physically. My students may go to a high poverty school, but that doesn't mean they don't want the same things other kids when they come to school: A place where they can learn.
My students are funny, creative and have big hearts.
They mostly come in with smiles (they are teenagers--you can't expect happy all the time!) They are learning, with teachers' help, how to transition from being a kid, to being adults. It's not easy, but they are anxious to be "grown-up."
My Project
It is really hard to sit in a desk all day. Adults know, you need to get up and move sometimes. Yet we expect kids to sit all day, in desks. Even when they work in groups, we expect the kids to just move the desks.
Some kids think better standing up.
Some kids in middle school also need the option of a desk that fits their height. Middle school boys can be very tall! They don't always fit in the standard desks. They need options, too! This project will provide for 2 double standing desks and four stools.
Having comfortable seating options is just one way my students know that I have their best interests at heart.
