The majority of my students lost everything they own last year in a devastating flood. The school building itself is uninhabitable, and the students, teachers, and administrators have worked to create a sense of normalcy at our temporary facility behind another junior high school.
These students are incredibly resilient, and they have a passion for music.
Despite the challenges they have faced in rebuilding their homes, they continue to work hard each day to learn and create music together. They are self driven, and want to not only participate in festivals, they want to bring home sweepstakes at each one.
My Project
In band, we do not use traditional desks. We use chairs and music stands to hold up our binders filled with all of the music we play each day in class. Our band program has a long history of excellence, and with a long history come equipment that has been around for a long time as well. We have enough chairs, but we do not have enough functioning music stands.
Music stands are extremely important in the life of a band program.
Without enough properly functioning stands, we struggle to perform our music to the best of our ability. Some of our music stands cannot hold up any music at all, and others hold up music, but are not height adjustable. When music stands cannot be adjusted, students have to compensate with poor posture and strained eye sight.
Currently, there are many students in each class that are using these broken stands, and there are no more stands available for those to be replaced. Your donation would help us have what we need so that we could successfully play our music during the school day, during after school rehearsals, and during our concerts!
