I am a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district where I work with students who are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking for a way to provide basic things we need each day.
Our neighborhood is sometimes unsafe; my students have brothers and sisters to worry about, and sometimes they are left on their own as a last resort because their parents have to go to work.
These students shouldn't have to worry about basic supplies as they already have enough to worry about! Let's make life just a little bit easier on them as they navigate these sometimes unspeakable challenges.
My Project
Due to the current pandemic, we have had to change a lot of our flexible seating. I normally have fun, comfortable chairs for students to sit in, crate stools, and pillows for them to use. I would like to provide my class with another option for flexible seating. By giving them the option to use a standing desk and stool, they will be able to be with our group without interrupting the rest of the students. In this way, they can get the break and stretch they might need in an unassuming way.
