Ms. Mauro from Orlando FL is requesting musical instruments through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need instrument stands for our classroom xylophones and glockenspiels to play in a more comfortable and performance friendly position.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a music teacher at a Title I school in the Central Florida area and teach approximately 500 students every week. Our school has an extremely diverse low income student population.
Despite daily obstacles outside of school, my students love music and work hard to showcase their talents and take on new challenges.
My goal is for the music room to be a place where they feel safe and are able to express themselves, take on challenges, and feel loved and supported.
The requested instrument stands for our classroom xylophones and glockenspiels will improve student learning because students will be able to stand while playing their instruments. This will help them feel more successful and have better technique, especially on our smallest glockenspiel instruments where students are many times hunched over trying to play and see the bars.
My students love to show off their skills on the instruments but, unfortunately, have to play on the floor which is uncomfortable for them and their audiences who struggle to see them.
The instrument stands will allow everyone in the audience to see students and enjoy watching their talent in addition to hearing it!
This project will also help our Orff ensemble transport our instruments safely from the music room to our stage in the cafeteria or wherever our instruments are needed for performances on or off campus.
