My Students

My students are a diverse array of around 600 kids from many different cultures, ethnic groups, and backgrounds looking to express themselves through music! Our school has a great presence of world cultures, covering kindergarten through fifth grade.

Music is an opportunity for students to experience social interaction without a single word!

My students are creative, and each brings his/her own unique perspective and personality to music class. Their individual interests also represent a variety of musical genres and instrumentation.

My Project

With a growing instrument collection and a diverse student population, some of my students need accommodations when playing our Orff instruments. Currently, students must sit or kneel on the floor in order to play the xylophones, which can be limiting for some students with various physical limitations.

I was made aware of the need for these tables when an amazing student could not play with our current set-up due to a physical special need.

Being able to stand would have immediately solved this issue. Not only does standing when playing instruments mean more students can play, but it also promotes better playing technique for all. All students will benefit from the mobility and accessibility that would come from having Orff tables for the instruments.
