This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a grades 6-12 city magnet school that brings together urban and suburban kids in one supportive environment. We are an International Baccalaureate school, and celebrate open-minded, balanced, caring, knowledgeable, and inquiring students, and one of the best ways is to expose our kids to a wide variety of mindsets, opinions, lifestyles and thoughts.
My school serves students in grades 6-12, and more than 50% receive free or reduced-price lunch/breakfast.
As an IB school, we hold every student accountable to the rigorous standards of the IB, and believe that every child, regardless of their zip code, should get the best global education possible.
My Project
Enter any music room, and you'll see students playing instruments, learning to read music, and becoming focused learners. Our classroom is no different - but our music stands have reached the end of their life span and are bent, dented, and in poor shape. We have a small graveyard of broken stands in the back corner of our room, and they need to be replaced! Kids don't learn without good equipment - and they're looking at the music on their stand for at least an hour, three times a week. I need to give them a good visualization of what our program is meant to be!
