I teach percussion students from the very beginning of their high school band experience (starting in the summer before their 9th grade year) through their senior year of playing. Most of these students present with individual qualities which make them amazing but challenging to teach. I teach students with a variety of disabilities, students from low-income families, students with behavior issues, and students who have exceptional talents.
The drumline is the heartbeat of the band here at North, but right now we don't quite have the tools to succeed, stand out, and make the drumline the positive form of school spirit this school needs!
These kids are amazing, hardworking, and the quirky highlight of my day. They play well, but are not quite reaching their full potential due to funding, lack of equipment, and time restraint issues.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for your support. Go Cats!
My Project
Weighing in at around 25 pounds, marching tenors are some of the heaviest instruments carried in marching band! Being a tenor player myself, I understand the toll the weight of these drums can take!
Right now, our tenor stands are so old they do not support the weight of our current drums marking them practically useless!
Our kids our strong, but in the stands at football games and in practice, these stands would give their backs a much needed break! Right now in our budget, new stands won't make the cut; but they are definitely something we need to succeed and play our best!
Thank you so much for your time and consideration of our project!
