This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I just started teaching a band program at our high school. I teach fifty students in each class, five classes, five times a week. I have three beginner band classes, an intermediate concert band, and a jazz band.
I have some amazing students who crave to learn about music and how to play their instruments.
They come early in the mornings and stay late after school to practice their instruments. The majority of my students are beginner band students, which means that they began to learn how to play an instrument for the first time in November. It has been an amazing experience for my students and me, but there is a problem. Most of my instruments are breaking down so much that it would cost an arm and a leg to repair them. I'm down to the bare minimum of instruments but if some more break down, then I won't have enough for my students to play.
My Project
A new bass drum stand would be a bright spot for my band program. It would be used daily by my students and would allow them to develop the technical skills and help develop a great sound. Right now, the concert bass drum is resting on a rickety-old stand that is not in good shape. My students have been yearning for instruments that would stay intact without breaking every day. By donating and helping us obtain this new bass drum stand, it would bring happiness to my percussion sections who have been waiting for this moment.
Not only would a new bass drum stand improve the playing ability and sound quality of a handful of students, but it would improve the morale and motivation of my students to keep playing and loving their instrument.
