Our classroom is a picture of the globe with diversity in the areas of ethnicity, heritage, language, learning style, reading level and socioeconomic status. Many of my students are new to the country. Others are new to the area due to military transitions to local bases in our area. Some are children of former students who have remained in our community throughout the years because of the accepting atmosphere of diversity it has to offer.
My students embrace learning with a positive attitude and an ambition to be the best version of themselves they can possibly be.
Together, in our classroom we have created a setting where judgement is unacceptable and encouragement is commonplace. We learn, collaborate, create and grow daily with enthusiasm and compassion for one another. We take pride in our learning and the way in which we go about it.
My Project
My students are avid writers. They love to create and when given the opportunity, will write for extended amounts of time. Recently, when tasked with writing a narrative piece, students requested a place in our classroom where they could stand to type. Our classroom is furnished with tables and chairs typical of the public school setting which currently doesn't allow for the option of standing.
The opportunity to stand while writing allows for a contemporary classroom setting where students have options.
Student comfort is directly reflected in the quality of assignments submitted. My students are very aware of the conditions they each thrive in and I would love to provide them the opportunity to complete work in an environment where they have choices.
