Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are great! Our students make up a very diverse and unique school system that I feel privileged to be a part of! Our district is radically different demographically than typical Iowa schools according to our numbers. Out of our district's totally enrolled 2,773 students more than 85% are non-Caucasian. Our district is more than half Hispanic and nearly one-fifth Asian. We have 31 different languages spoken besides English, and nearly ⅔ of the students are classified as ELL students or English Language Learners.

The diversity of students in our school is what makes our school great!

There are so many things to learn from our students and I just want to help give them the experiences to make their educational experiences great!

My Project

This would be a great addition to my classroom so that students have the option to stand and complete school activities if they choose to. Students are asked to sit all day long in every class and I know that options like this would help some of them focus and improving their thinking. Most of us do not like to sit all day long and I don't like that we ask our students to either. Our building currently does not have any flexible seating anywhere so this would be a small starting point that would hopefully start a larger movement!

Giving students choice within their learning environments helps improve student focus and freedoms within the classroom.
