What do you get when you mix enthusiasm, positivity, compassion, rigor, support, and fun into an educational setting? Well, that's simple! You just mixed yourself up a batch of our room! It's actually a shame that there isn't a recipe for the dynamics of this classroom!
Our room is a magical place where fifth-grade students of diverse needs, academically, behaviorally, and social-emotionally come together 6 hours a day, 5 days a week to challenge themselves and each other to reach their utmost potential.
My students reside in an urban district and attend a Title I school where 85% of the school's population receives free or reduced-price lunch.
Despite some obstacles, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They desire to be in school and they yearn for a successful future. I may not be able to control every factor that determines these students' future, but I will most certainly try to procure every resource possible to enrich their educational environment.
My Project
There is a big debate revolving around the impact of technology on today's youth. There are so many wonderful benefits to having a 1:1 student to Chromebook ratio in our classroom. However, increased screen time throughout the day is keeping students static. Students need movement!
My students need 5 standing desks in order to allow more movement in the classroom.
Increasing low-level activity, such as standing in the classroom engages students with their curriculum and gets them up and moving. Spaces that promote movement both energize and empower students, as well as encourage collaboration and boost engagement among classmates and educators. As technology advances, it stands to reason that our learning environment advances as well.
