I am such a lucky teacher to be able to guide and facilitate the learning of motivated and exceptional students! In my classroom, we spend our day completing inquiries and investigating our present through the study of our past. In addition, my students are consistently mastering new and important math concepts that push them closer to their secondary education futures.
Between the two 5th grade classes at our school, I work with over 50 students.
Our school's focus is the STEM field, as well as a deep appreciation for the Arts. Students from kindergarten through eighth grade get to experience learning from a variety of classes and teachers each day. The hands-on, differentiated curriculum allows every child to show growth.
My goal as an educator is to foster a love of learning. I work to demonstrate and model an appreciation for education and what opportunities it may provide.
My Project
At our Academy, our students are engaged in a lot of learning throughout the day! This can mean a lot of sitting at a desk or table. While the focus and practice is essential to move each student forward academically, it is important to remember an individual's physical needs as well as his/her mental ones!
By adding 4 standing desks in my classroom, I will be able to provide an alternative to sitting.
I personally know many kids, as well as adults, who can focus better when standing. Sometimes you just need to stretch your legs!
These desks will provide the opportunity for students to be fluid and flexible with their bodies while learning. Not only can a change in the physical position help a learner maintain or regain focus, these desks will promote more body awareness and combat the plague of an overly sedentary lifestyle. I only wish I would have had a whole set of desks such as this from my first day of teaching!
