My students need books for their listening center and supplies for math. Right now our classroom has a listening center, however, we do not have any read along books to use in the listening center.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have 22 students, all of whom come to school every day with a smile on their face, ready to learn despite their home life circumstances. A few of my kids are homeless, a few of them have parents who are incarcerated, a few of them have individualized learning plans, many of them take the city bus, sometimes on their own without an adult, and all of them are on free breakfast and lunch. However, they show up every single day. They are some of the hardest working and most dedicated group of children I have ever met. They are a very genuine group of kids and have become their own little family since the first day of school. They know when someone is sad or mad and they try their best to help turn each other's moods around. They get excited over each other's accomplishments and successes and are the first to want to celebrate that person. They cheer each other on and up. Every one of my kids wants to learn, however, being at a Title I school it is sometimes challenging to provide these kids with everything they need to make their learning experience great.
My Project
Since getting our listening center this past fall, my students have been so excited to use it. However, we have not been able to buy any books for the listening center yet. Every day, my students have asked me if and when we swill finally be able to use the listening center. I want them to be able to use it before the end of the year, especially now that they are reading on their own.
As my students continue to learn how to read, I want them to be more challenged.
The books that will be used in the listening center are harder than the book we currently have in our library. By getting higher leveled reading books as well as being able to listen to the books, my kids will progress their reading abilities even faster. The goal is to get all students to read fluently by the end of the school year. This will help reach that goal.
