Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Traditionally, students would learn their sight words and letter sounds by using flashcards. In the 21st century, students want hands-on, engaging ways to learn. Using stamps, paper rolls and magnetic organizers are more exciting and the students may not feel like they are learning.
We are a Kindergarten Dual Language classroom in a public school in Connecticut.
Our students are learning English and Spanish in our program. They are learning to read and write in both languages. Our students are motivated and excited to learn two languages!
My Project
My students need paper, stamps, stamp pads and magnetic organizers and clips and markers to work at stations during class. My students would use these materials during small group instruction. For the letter sound stamps and phonics stamps the students would decode words and stamp them out. The students would use the sight word and the dotted traceable letters to develop writing skills and sight word vocabulary. They would stamp, trace and write their sight words on the roll of writing paper. Learning these words will benefit them when they are reading, as well.
Reading and writing is a foundational skill, and without success in this area, all other areas suffer.
I want to try and close the gap now, in Kindergarten. I want my students to be reading on grade level when they leave my classroom. Any donation would make a difference. I really appreciate all of your support. Thank you so much!
