Many of my students are refugees who come from all over the globe to seek a better life. For many, this is their first formal experience with school and the English language. They face many obstacles, but they have a love of learning. Smiles light up their faces as they enter school each day. School is a place where they can learn their new language and mix with peers with diverse backgrounds. They are eager learners and tackle each task with confidence.
Many of my students are new to our country and are just learning how to read and speak English. Every day in class, we practice reading words through decoding and comprehension. They try very hard, but it gets boring having to write all the time. My students need a more interactive approach to our phonics study. These word tiles and word stamps will give them a more hands-on approach to decoding skills. They will be able to manipulate the different letter sounds and word parts to practice forming new words. The stamps will help them realize the placement of vowels. The letter tiles will teach them which letters are vowels and which are consonants. A class set of the letter tiles will allow us to do whole or small group learning of new words.
