Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a low income area, many of which are ESOL, ELL or ESE. We are a Title 1 school.
All of my wonderful sixth graders are committed and focused, more than I have ever seen before and they are simply in need of support and supplies.
The areas of struggle for most of my student population is catching up in reading and consequently, they struggle with the evidence based writing.
I am hoping to get them on track for a successful middle school career by starting them off of on the right foot!
My Project
Students at my school have struggled with writing. With a new initiative to get the students on track with their writing from 6th grade and continuing on through their entire middle schools career, I want to assure that their sixth grade classroom is stocked in the supplies needed to support their writing journey. They will use highlighters, portfolios and poster paper to edit and evaluate their writing as they grow throughout the year. A writing model is in place and the students are ready to be actively engaged in taking ownership for their own writing! They are excited and working hard but need more materials to support their journey.
