This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Within my classroom, I serve students that have disabilities such as Developmental Delay, a variety of Learning Disabilities, Attention-Deficit, Hyperactivity Disorder, as well as Speech and Language Disability. There is an average of 20 students served daily in my Resource, Special Education, classroom.
Being curious, inquisitive and creative, our school has students who range in grades PreK through Fifth; who come from many different social-economical status backgrounds.
We are a public, Title I elementary school, located in a small, rural town within South Carolina.
My Project
We all like good seats when we're at a football, baseball or basketball game, right? Having a cushioned seat helps us to better enjoy the game. Why not provide the same for students to have within the classroom? These seats will give students the ability to choose a comfortable seating place to complete assignments within the classroom.
Over time and from experience, students who are more relaxed within the classroom are more susceptible to having a sense of security, safety, and knowledge that they are valued.
All of this then increases their self-esteem and motivation to be engaged in their learning process. Given the option of having these cushioned seats, they will have the choice to on the floor, to accomplish tasks, whether it be whole group activities with the Promethean board, active instruction on their Chromebooks, or individual assignments, students will be able to sit in a quiet place within the room, comfortablle.
