Help me give my students the materials they need to get rid of paper-pencil morning work and begin to use stacking pegs, dominoes, tangrams in morning tubs that focus on fine motor and spacial awareness skills.
My kindergartners love to learn using hands-on manipulatives while participating in authentic play. They love to use the letters to build words, create math problems using counters and learn about science though experiments.
Through this approach, they are learning social skills as well as academics in a highly engaging environment.
Most of the time they are having so much fun, they don't even know they are learning. I know I have done my job well when they think they are just playing.
My Project
I would like to get away from the traditional paper and pencil morning work for my Kindergartners and introduce them to hands on exploration tubs during their morning work and math center time. I have personally purchased and prepared over 500 fine motor/math skill activity mats but I do not have the hands on materials to use with them. Funding this project will allow me to purchase the materials that I need to help engage my students during their morning work time.
They will use their fine motor and spacial awareness skills to place the dominoes, stacking pegs, unifix cubes and colored sticks in the correct patterns to complete and activity.
