Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A tornado destroyed their school, but my early college students continue to persevere. They are first-generation college-bound kids from economically disadvantaged homes with strength, determination, open hearts and minds who deserve the best education we can offer.
They make me laugh and sometimes cry on a daily basis with their unique vision and experience of what it really means to go forward in times of adversity.
They deserve and need the best education because the world needs them.
My Project
Most teenagers don't eat breakfast in the morning, nor do they get enough sleep every night. This is especially true the night before a high stakes exam. By providing them with food-granola bars and candy, along with pencils, highlighters, books, and erasers, it is my hope that these supplies will help wake them up and aid their concentration during the test.
It's difficult to concentrate when you're hungry and anxious.
In the past, when I have provided snacks for my test-taking students, they feel better physically and even emotionally because they know their teacher cares for their well being. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
