Our Kindergarten students are four and five-year-olds who attend a full day program in Boston Public Schools.
Our classroom is an active and engaging setting full of choices and learning opportunities.
Our students love coming to school and parents often say they truly consider it their second home. This is their first year in our school, and for some, it is their first year at any school. They bring lots of energy and fun to whatever activity we are doing, which creates a vibrant and enthusiastic learning environment every day.
My students have a wide range of skills and learning needs making it essential to provide them with flexible and impactful learning materials. Student goals range from identifying letters in the alphabet to increasing their beginning reading skills: from counting to 10 to exploring foundational multiplication. All students love being a part of creating their own learning materials and sharing and documenting the work they are doing through photos.
My Project
Squigz are amazing tools for our students' fine motor skills and physics explorations. Squigz are a fine motor building toy that suction to themselves as well as to other flat surfaces. They are soft and flexible and provide a unique building experience unlike any other that we currently have in our room. Students will find the physics of building with these much different than anything they are used to and will have to come up with some problem solving along with their creativity while building whatever their imaginations can create. Imagine the amazing things we could build together with squigz!
